3 DIY Bird Feeders for Kids

Three DIY homemade bird feeders for kids! These are great and easy for kids to make using ingredients you probably already have! Included in this post is a Bird Feeder Ornament, Pine Cone Bird Feeder, and a simple Peanut Butter Bird Feeder using a toilet paper roll!

Bird feeders are so fun. Your child can make their own bird feeders and hang them in trees in your yard to watch the birds. You could also hang them on trees during a nature walk on a walking trail.

In this post, I have directions for three different DIY homemade bird feeders. You can make any that you want or all 3! These bird feeders would also be a great gift, especially the ornament one.

Materials

  • Sandwich Bread
  • Egg whites
  • Pastry brush
  • Bird Seed
  • Twine/Yarn/String
  • Cookie Cutters (We used fall themed: pumpkin, acorn, and leaves!)
  • Straw

Directions

  1. Use a cookie cutter to cut out a shape in a piece of bread.
  2. Use a straw to put a hole towards the top of the shape to put the string through later.
  3. Brush egg whites on top of the bread shape and sprinkle with bird seed. You may need to poke through the hole with a straw again to make sure there is no bird seed in it.
  4. Bake bread with egg whites and bird seed for 5 minutes at 300 degrees.
  5. When cool, string the twine through the hole and tie to make a loop. Hang on a tree outside!
